Chanda Rule Performs Live at Solomon's Porch

Born in between the off beats, and bump and grind of the Disco/Funk-Era in the Windy City, Chanda began weaving stories through song, humming melodies, and bending words as a child. A self-proclaimed "childhood shower singing sensation", music was her secret solace. Snuggly entrenched in a family that revered academic achievements, singing was a dream realized in school girl chorus lines and at church on Sunday mornings. After graduating from Howard University with a degree in Journalism and a whirlwind stint in Corporate America, her passion for song was rediscovered. "One day I was on the train, and felt as though I'd forgotten myself. There I was, riding to work on a Monday morning, thinking about projects, deadlines, and emails, when my heart was crying out for music."

With a leap of faith, a lot of encouragement, and God-given talent, Chanda embarked on a musical journey that has taken her from small towns in Kentucky, Illinois, and Indiana, to international venues in Amsterdam, Berlin and Moscow. No matter where she travels, she is awed by the power of music. "There is something about rhythm and melody that can always find a smile, throw a head back with laughter, or even tears... it transcends language and breaks through cultural and racial barriers."

Chandas has appeared in a variety of productions, from Shakespeare in the Park in New Jersey, to Hair, The Musical in Europe; sang with Victor Jones along side Mino Cinelu, Papo Vasquez and John Benitez; opened for India.Arie, Angela Bofill, and Amel Larrieux; and performed at various music festivals and venues such as Birdland, Le-Club Moscow, Hard Rock Café, and the Jazz Standard.
