The Kase Project A British Rock/Pop/Soul influenced artist along with amazing musicians who work well together to create an excellent interpretation of the writer's perspective (writer: Kase). Kingsley K. Charles is a soloist, writer, composer, arranger, executive producer, and Christian. He is also the founder of The Kase Project. In fact his nickname is Kase, and the musical arrangement he has with contract musicians is known as his project. The "Project" itself includes the interpretation of Kingsley's valued life experiences, and awesome contract musician friends, pointing in the end to one common goal. This specific goal is to do what we were made to do greatly by bringing his life to music to the world but most of all addressing all the issues he faced and faces while pressing toward the fixated light that cannot be blemished. The light of purpose.

Live @ Solomon's Porch: Brown Baby Girl with Special Guest Mark Vodery

Brown Baby Girl live with special guest Mark Vodery. This night is gonna be fantastic!!! You don't wanna miss it!!!!

Birthday Bash for Buyu Ambroise Come Celebrate

It's time to party! Celebrate the birthnight of Buyu Ambroise!

Join Jean Caze, The Blues in Red Band, and Solomon's Porch as we party with Buyu Haitian Style. A night of good Haitian Jazz surrounded by well wishers!

Buyu Ambroise:
Buyu Ambroise was born in Haiti's national capital, Port-au-Prince. After a brief stay in the Republic of Congo as a child, Buyu has resided in the United States for over 35 years. Buyu was drawn to the saxophone at a young age, experimenting with the instrument as as a high school student in Brooklyn, New York during the 1970s, a fertile period for both Haitian music and American jazz. His passion for jazz music led him to study with jazz legends such as Frank Foster, Jimmy Owens, and John Lewis.

Coming from a jazz perspective, Buyu has revealed a natural relationship between the complex polyrhythmic structures in both the North American form and the Afro-Caribbean sound of traditional Haitian music. This fusion is the birth of a new musical style that encompasses the two and sustains the mix effortlessly. Although this subgenre of World Jazz is considered cutting edge, Buyu's recordings and live performances are executed with a spirit and level of mastery that invoke a gentle blend of harmonies that have matured on Haitian and American stages for generations.

Celebrate Memorial Weekend with The Jazz Stylings of Songtress JUJU, Live @ Solomon's Porch

JUJU

“Music is in every living thing on earth. When we find that music in ourselves we’ll all be connected.”

JUJU is a consummate jazz artist. She is a singer, musician, composer and arranger. Many have followed her illustrious career since the 1970s.

The JUJU Jazz Band performs regularly and includes pianist Yoichi Uzeki, drummer Napoleon Rebels Bay and bass player Mike Fitzbenjamin. JUJU performed for 5 nights in Wash, DC, during President Barack Obama’s inaugural celebration. Juju as a promoter/producer just completed 4 successful weeks of performances at Folukie’s in Bed-Stuy during the Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival.

Drawn to music at an early age her first instruments included the clarinet, saxophone, congas and percussion.

Juju comes from the “Gordon Clan” father Alfred and Uncle Dexter both jazz saxophonists and continues to play the soprano saxophone. JUJU performed as an adolescent throughout New York State’s capital district and beyond: Saratoga, Lake George, the Catskills, Vermont, Toronto and Montreal. Her professional debut at 12 was a notable one. She sang background vocals and played the tambourine on Don McLean’s 1971 folk-rock classic American Pie. She began composing at 13 and won a talent competition at 15 with an original jazz composition entitled Soul Searching. The coveted prize was a performance contract with ABC giving her the opportunity to perform with USO bands worldwide. Nice gig for a teenager!

Over the years she has performed as a background singer for Curtis Mayfield, Lola Falana, Michael McDonald, Michael Franks, Sergio Mendes and Ashanti among others. She has served as a vocal, harmony and basic horns arranger for several artists. She opened for Nancy Wilson at the Coliseum in the mid-1970s, Bette Midler at New York’s Continental Baths in the early 1980s and R & B group Tavares in the 1980s among other known artists. She moved to Atlanta in the 1990s to tour with Ray Charles for 2 years as one of the Pepsi Girls.

Juju is known up and down the east coast from Miami to NYC as “Lady J” or Juju. As a world artist she has performed in London, Italy, Spain, Paris, West & South Africa, Japan, Vietnam and Ireland.

Her repertoire covers all genres and includes the well-loved jazz songs Nika’s Dream, Whisper Not, Jeanine, Night in Tunisia, Ruby My Dear and Stolen Moments. She also puts her stamp on the Beatles’ We Can Work It Out, Carole King’s You’ve Got a Friend and It’s Too Late and Patsy Cline’s I Fall To Pieces. “I am a song stylist who prefers jazz because it allows me to express myself entirely. But I love all types of good music from rock ‘n roll to fusion to pop to country to classical to funk and even hip-hop.”

To date she has written and published 15 songs, titles include Soul Searching, I’m Gonna Miss You When You Are Gone, The Jazz Musician, If This Is Love, I Got News 4 U and Save the World. She’s recorded them all and jazz icon Sarah Vaughn performed If This Is Love at the Blue Note in the 1980s.

JUJU also teaches jazz and vocal performance to students across all age groups and artist levels. In 2009 she is at the helm of several exciting jazz ventures across all media platforms.

Goals for 2009 include completing both a jazz and a smooth jazz CD…having a hit song playing on the radio around the globe… producing a great video…placing her songs in films...shaping a documentary around her composition Save the World…continually working at her craft…flourishing as an artist and being a blessing to others.

“Just as I love the good in all people, I love jazz’s ability to connect us all. I’ve been blessed with the gift of musical talent. I give it the respect it deserves.”

THE ORIGINAL JAZZY JAY began his illustrious career playing in the streets of the Bronx, under the guidance of Afrika Bambaataa. During the 80's club revolution, Jazzy went from performing on the streets and in small clubs spinning records in NYC's hottest clubs: Negril, The Roxy, The Ritz, and Danceteria. He was one of the first to bring Hip Hop music to the airwaves on KISS FM. Jazzy's three hour show grew so popular that it was eventually syndicated on Europe's Radio One broadcast.

Jazzy Jay played the role of club DJ in the Hip Hop classic, Beat Street, and he also contributed to the movie's soundtrack. Renowned Jazz Drummer, Bernard Linette Performs Live

A native of Norfolk, Virginia, Bernard's fascination with the resounding thunder of the drum set began at an early age. His legacy of playing percussion is rooted in his childhood, where he was the drummer for his church choir at age 9. Bernard reflects on such greats as Elvin Jones and Jazz Messenger phenomenon Art Blakely and attributes Steve Ellington and Billy Higgins as major influences in his style.

While studying at Rutgers University, Bernard formed invaluable and lifelong associations with some of the most respected names in Jazz, including Kenny Barron, Grady Tate, Michael Carvin, Larry Ridley, Paul Jefferey and Ted Dunbar. A proven and articulate clinician, Bernard served as part of a clinic conducted by the legendary saxophonist Sonny Stitt.

After serving in the Armed Forces, Bernard began another life long association while working with pianist and vocalist Freddie Cole. Bernard credits his foundation for his understanding of the classic standards, swing arrangements, ballads and the art of voice performance to his work with Freddy Cole. Bernard has also performed with such greats as Little Jimmy Scott, Junior Cook, Cedar Walton, Donald Harrison and Abbey Lincoln. Through his energetic yet defined style, Bernard has won many well-deserved accolades in the world of Jazz. His sextet, inspired by Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers strives for a well arranged blend of straight-ahead, latin and avant-garde grooves.

"Vanessa Rubin is a diva who is on the cusp of becoming a true jazz legend. She proves herself as much a musician as any of the all-star players behind her with her crisp articulation, precise pitch, bluesy swagger and harmonic imagination."

"The range of material within Vanessa Rubins broad comfort zone is impressive. It takes conviction and expertise to address the work of composers ranging from Ellington, Gershwin, and Weil to Dizzy Gillespie, Carmen McRae, Wayne Shorter and Sting. But alls well when Vanessa Rubin immerses her pearly tones in such a capacious range of material, not to mention her own considerable pallet of originals."

Chanda Rule Performs Live at Solomon's Porch

Born in between the off beats, and bump and grind of the Disco/Funk-Era in the Windy City, Chanda began weaving stories through song, humming melodies, and bending words as a child. A self-proclaimed "childhood shower singing sensation", music was her secret solace. Snuggly entrenched in a family that revered academic achievements, singing was a dream realized in school girl chorus lines and at church on Sunday mornings. After graduating from Howard University with a degree in Journalism and a whirlwind stint in Corporate America, her passion for song was rediscovered. "One day I was on the train, and felt as though I'd forgotten myself. There I was, riding to work on a Monday morning, thinking about projects, deadlines, and emails, when my heart was crying out for music."

With a leap of faith, a lot of encouragement, and God-given talent, Chanda embarked on a musical journey that has taken her from small towns in Kentucky, Illinois, and Indiana, to international venues in Amsterdam, Berlin and Moscow. No matter where she travels, she is awed by the power of music. "There is something about rhythm and melody that can always find a smile, throw a head back with laughter, or even tears... it transcends language and breaks through cultural and racial barriers."

Chandas has appeared in a variety of productions, from Shakespeare in the Park in New Jersey, to Hair, The Musical in Europe; sang with Victor Jones along side Mino Cinelu, Papo Vasquez and John Benitez; opened for India.Arie, Angela Bofill, and Amel Larrieux; and performed at various music festivals and venues such as Birdland, Le-Club Moscow, Hard Rock Café, and the Jazz Standard.

The Jeff King Band
&
Special Guest:
Trombonist
Dick Griffin

Featuring:
Jeff King - Tenor Sax
Denton Darien - Piano
Larry Johnson - Drums
Abdus Sabor - Percussion
Byrce Sebastion - Bass

For your listening pleasure...
Put a few trombonists together and the talk will inevitably come around to mouthpieces and multiphonics. Dick Griffin is one of the most respected players of the long brass horn whose employers include dozens of big names in jazz. He is considered one of the greats at producing multiphonics and has most likely created lots of new conversational material for his colleagues by inventing a playing technique he calls "circularphonics."

In a career spanning over 40 years, he has performed with some of the biggest names in Jazz and Soul, as well as appearing with several symphony orchestras. A short list of the luminaries Mr. Griffin has worked with includes: Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Tito Puente, Art Blakey, Charles Mingus, Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Isaac Hayes, Dionne Warwick, and Lionel Hampton.

Griffin has developed a highly personalized playing style which he calls"circularphonics". His ability to combine playing chords on the trombone with circular breathing is unrivaled among Jazz trombonists. The expanded range of simultaneous sounds Griffin creates through his multiphonic technique sometimes evokes the spirit of such experimental Jazz musicians as John Coltrane, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, and Sun Ra. Never a follower, Griffin has moved beyond the course set by these pioneering giants to develop a unique style on and for an instrument which has hardly been the most widely used in modern Jazz.

Chelsea Nicole: Album Release Showcase

Come watch me perform and celebrate the release of my new album, Through a Woman’s Eyes. The album, "Through a Woman’s Eyes" will be FINALLY available in March 2009. The album is a compilation of love songs and life songs written and performed through the eyes of today’s woman. The album will include 14 songs produced by Jay Mitchell and Marc Thou and featuring legendary keyboardist and producer Jeff Lorber. CDs will be available for purchase. Please save the date and spread the word to friends and family!

About Chelsea Nichole:
It was 1992 and a white light illuminated a sultry young singer on a black-shrouded stage. Asked to perform the famous song, "Summertime", Chelsea Nichole engulfed the crowd and in that instant found her element. She knew that moment that she would sing professionally. Soon after, in early 1993, she was cast as the lead vocalist of the R& B singing group, LaTre. Though signed to an independent record label the group split up in 1994 as the girls sought to fullfil their separate dreams of solo-stardom. Chelsea continued to sing and write through the following year In 1995 Chelsea was introduced to the famous jazz artist/producer Jeff Lorber who invited her to debut on his 1998 album "Midnight". Her two contributions included "I Ain't Thinkin' About You" and "Never". This proved to be an amazing opportunity and relationship in which Chelsea and Jeff Lorber continued to collaborate as a writing team. In addition, Chelsea Nichole has and continues to collaborate with many well-known producers including Randy Jackson, Guy Roche and Wah WahWatson. Some of her credits include writing for Hanna Barbara's Flinstones CD (1994) and artists such as Jeff Lorber, Tabiha Faire, Martine Mai, Wah Wah Watson, Andre Delano, Chris Camozzi, Dave Koz, Victor Fields, and gospel artists Kenny Smith. Her collaboration and vocal performance is the song "If I didn't have love" written with Dave Koz and Jeff Lorber was featured on the album "Slow Burn" - by artist Chris Camozzi which released on April 24, 2001 under the Samson Records umbrella. Her most recent writing accomplishments are the songs, "Thinking of You" and "Vibe" which appeared on the 2007 release of Victor Fields newest project entitled, "Thinking of You". Currently, Chelsea appears on the 2008 release of Andre Delano's newest album entitled, "My So Fine" and the newest release from Jeff Lorber entitled, "Heard That". This year Chelsea will complete her debut project entitled, "Through a Woman's Eyes". She is currently performing locally in Los Angeles and the east coast.

Buyu Ambroise & Blues In Red

LIVE HAITIAN JAZZ

Coming from a jazz perspective, Buyu has revealed a natural relationship between the complex polyrhythmic structures in both the North American form and the Afro-Caribbean sound of traditional Haitian music. This fusion is the birth of a new musical style that encompasses the two and sustains the mix effortlessly. Although this subgenre of World Jazz is considered cutting edge, Buyu's recordings and live performances are executed with a spirit and level of mastery that invoke a gentle blend of harmonies that have matured on Haitian and American stages for generations.

Specifically in Marasa, unexpected twists in compositions such as Plezi Mize (Pleasure in Misery) and Wangol attracts listeners and relentlessly captivates their attention. Buyu's melodies are inspired from the rich repertoire of Afro-Haitian music sustained with modern jazz harmonies.

Upcoming projects this year include a third album, continued appearances at concerts and various jazz venues in New York City, Miami, Boston, Montreal, Haiti and beyond.

Live Mystic Jaz | Renegade Sufi with DAWOUD

Renegade Sufi is a blend of the modern and ancient music of India, Africa, Persia, and Asia upon a foundation of jazz, blues, and hip hop. This is what Dawoud calls Mystic Jaz. One of Dawoud's accomplishment is the development of techniques and innovations on sitar, including the integration of eastern and western techniques; and the development of the sitar synthesizer.
Mystic Jaz is a music that produces an enlightening effect upon the mind, body, and spirit of the listener. Audiences from the USA and Europe have attended his performances, and listened to his recordings. All feel that they have participated in a unique musical and spiritual experience.

Dawoud's work is rare - perhaps unique.
His capacity as a sitarist, guitarist, composer, and improviser is that of someone who has mastered his craft. He has no lack of confidence in his vision or ability to manifest it as an artistic reality.
Audiences have walked away from his performances having had an experience that transcended mere entertainment or art.
If you are looking for a unique and beautiful musical experience, you came to the right place."

www.myspace.com/renegadesufi

As told by the artist:
You are here because you want music.
I can offer music.
I supose I could entertain you.
But you want something greater;
Something that speaks to your heart.
Something ecstatic and sacred.
You want something more real than real.
Am I right?
I won't sing putrid love songs to an imaginary girl.
I'm talking to YOU, to your inner self.
So, since you are intrigued by innovative ideas about music and unprecedented approach to sitar, love beauty, heroism, and communion with the Divine, strive for vastness of spirit and profundity of meditative reflection on existence, and you crave a romantic mysticism and the surrender to the dimensions of the spiritual and sensual, then by all means, welcome!
You've come to the right place.

Michelle Renee LIVE DEBUT PERFORMANCE

You don't know who Michelle Renee is yet, but you will. Part homegirl, part glam girl; she's a musical force in a beautiful package and she's about to be the most played artist on your iPod. You might have seen her performing around New York, or maybe you caught her touring with Chrisette Michelle. Or maybe you've just heard the name interspersed in conversations about artists who have a deep abiding commitment to quality music, musical integrity and introspective lyrics.

She began to make the rounds of the New York artists circuit, singing at the popular Maria Davis artist showcase, R&B legends Nick Ashford & Valerie Simpson's Sugar Bar and performing at every open mic night that she could get to.

Her natural beauty and grace has been featured in O the magazine, Cosmopolitan and others, a principle part in a New York City stage performance of The Oscar-winning screen musical "Dreamgirls".

A chance meeting with R&B star Chrisette Michele led to an opportunity to tour from coast to coast as a back-up singer. Her talent, smarts and dedication made a definite impression on Chrisette Michele. "She sang well and made it her business to appear in great spirits no matter what the moment looked or felt like. Michelle was not only my back up singer she often doubled as my publicist on the red carpet, my road manager, and always doubled as my personal assistant making sure I was always prompt, prepared and informed at all times. Professional, smart, well spoken and well educated -- she handles any task with confidence," Michelle Renee also became a close friend and confidante of the singer. "As a friend, she has been beyond loyal, always with an open ear, mind and heart," says Chrisette Michele. "I don't know how I would have gotten through the past year and a half without Michelle Renee."

"My music is youthful, chill, melodic and I want them to be inspired by not only my voice, but also what I'm expressing through my songs." Her musical influences cover the scope of music, but the people who stay on repeat are Minnie Riperton, Teedra Moses, Beyonce, Raheem Devaughn and Aaliyah to name a few.

So, what can the world expect to hear next from this young phenom? Singing with Chrisette Michele and Lloyd, singing lead for Harlem favorite Stereo Crowd, and headlining for the JI Group's mega-parties she's assembled a body of work that is deep, inspired and accessible to all types of fans.

And as fans can see from her Harlem smash "Handle," her music is what friends compare to "a cool breeze while riding with the top down on a summers day." It is as unassuming as she is in person; free from pretense and ego. "It's chill, it's real, it's genuine, it's from my heart," she says.

So world stay tuned, Michelle Renee is going to see if you can Handle her.
